The Story of Lola...

We had been investigating getting a sister for Tucker for about 6 months; talking to rescue groups, visiting breeders, going to the Humane Societies and animal control facilities. We knew we wanted a large female dog that liked cats and other dogs.

On April 18, 2004, we went to the Northwest Pet and Companion Fair, knowing full well that the place would be packed with rescues and pound puppies. We were open to the idea of meeting The Dog(tm), but swore that we wouldn't leave with a dog on the spot...so much for that.

Lola was part of a litter of 3 puppies (2 females and 1 male) surrendered to Bonnie Hays Small Animal Shelter of Washington County in Hillsboro. Their mother is a German Shepherd dog, and their father is anyone's guess (although we're pretty sure he was a husky mix).

We saw Lola and her sister at Bonnie Hays' booth, and of course were initially attracted because hey, cute puppies. When we watched her, she was mellow and friendly, very floppy and affectionate. Her sister was much more rambunctious and adventurous (like Tucker). Lola also wandered over to a rack of crates with cats in them, and was low-key but interested in the cats, and only gave them a few seconds of attention before she moved on (and before the cats could even go into full paroxysms of disgust). We taught her how to sit in about 2 minutes, right there in the middle of the fair, and we knew she was the dog for us.
